Do not force the door
Forcing the handle can add damage and may release trapped water. Wait for the manufacturer’s normal safety delay and follow the model’s instructions for emergency draining or release only if it is safe.
Common causes
- The machine has not drained.
- The cycle has not completed or the controls have frozen.
- The door lock or handle has failed.
- The machine still detects water or unsafe drum conditions.
Diagnosing the lock problem
Drainage should be checked before replacing a door component. The lock, handle, wiring and controls can then be assessed for the actual failure.
